Medds Farmhouse is on the West side of Rosedale, just beyond
the hamlet of Thorgill. Sheep and cattle farming are the main
activities in the Dale but farming is no longer carried out
at Medds. The Farmhouse is a traditional stone Dales building,
parts of which are said to be over 300 years old.
Stable Cottage
The cottage is attached to the main farmhouse and is self
contained. It was, prior to the conversion, the stable and
tack room for the farm. The cottage is centrally heated: there
are no open fires. The 3 bedrooms sleep up to 5 people in
double, twin and single beds. All bed linen and towels are
provided for guests. Heating, lighting and cooking are by
metered electricity and gas. There are parking spaces for
2 to 3 cars.
Access is by a separate, side entrance with a timber stable
door into the hallway. On the ground floor is a dining/sitting
room (with TV), a small snug - which gives access to the garden,
a shower room with wash basin and toilet. The galley-style
kitchen is well equiped with a full sized, electric cooker,
fridge/freezer, microwave oven and toaster. The water in the
cottage comes from a moorland spring, a supply of bottled
water is provided for cold drinks. All bedrooms are on the
first floor. A cot and high chair are available if required.
